MANGANO AND POLITI TO ISSUE HEALTH WARNING TO PARENTS AND TEENAGERS ABOUT THE POPULAR VIRAL FIRE CHALLENGE
East Meadow, NY – Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano and Nasssau University Medical Center CEO/President Victor Politi will join Fire Department officials in a press conference TODAY at 2pm to issue a health warning to local parents and teenagers about the popular internet fire challenge.
Last week, a Far Rockaway youth suffered burns to over 40 percent of his body in attempting this life threatening stunt. Fire challenge – a viral online trend – is when someone pours flammable liquid over themselves, sets themselves on fire and uploads the video to social media.
The press conference will take place outside the Nassau County University Medical Center Burn Unit which treats local residents that are caused severe injury due to fires. The dangerous fire challenge can result in multiple operations and even death.
