PORT Waterfront Bar & Grill in Greenport has geared up for its second season of serving classic waterfront fare. But this time around a new chef and creative menu are part of the package.
“We have geared the menu towards accommodating many different types of diners,” said owner Keith Bavaro who reopened the welcoming spot for the season with his wife Ali on May 4. “[That includes] families grabbing a quick bite for lunch before going back out on the boat, couples on a romantic date and large groups looking for a good time.”
Bringing experience from Nick and Toni’s, Gramercy Tavern and Salt and Barrel, chef Alex Williamson aims to impress both the biggest foodies and pickiest eaters. A playful take on the signature lobster roll, the corn scallion lobster waffle already has people talking. It’s made with lobster, scallions and bean sprouts in a corn bread waffle topped with kewpie doll mayo, eel sauce and bonito flakes. Different types of poke bowls (like the ahi tuna and charred broccoli) were also added along with light salads such as the Thai steak (marinated skirt steak, bibb lettuce, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, shallots, Thai herbs, crispy garlic and tamarind chili vinaigrette).
The “experts only” section of the new menu reflects PORT’s fun-loving style of hospitality. Dishes like the foot-long lobster roll are meant to be “over-the-top and indulgent.” The whole fish taco (a fried fish served with the head and tail, a stack of warm corn tortillas and an array of salsas and garnishes) invites guests to interact with each other as they pull apart the fish and assemble their tacos.
Also new this year is the family-style seating and sharing menu built to accommodate large parties. “[It is perfect] for groups of people coming in after a wine tour or beach day or for summer friends all wanting to eat together on the water in Greenport,” said Keith.
And with the new cheery yellow striped awning that covers the raised deck (offering pristine ferry views to boot), any bad weather won’t be much of an obstacle.
“We hope the summer season solidifies our reputation as one of the most innovative, welcoming and lively establishments in Greenport,” said Keith.
PORT Waterfront Bar & Grill is located at 104 Third Street and is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday until Memorial Day, every day for lunch and dinner through Labor Day Weekend and weekends Labor Day to Columbus Day.
